PakTurk International Schools & Colleges held the prize distribution ceremony for the first nationwide Inter Schools Math Olympiad (ISMO) on February 13, 2013.

In 2013, ISMO initiated for the conferment of the title Al-Khwarizmi of Pakistan to the best student in Class 8 category in memory of Abu Abdallah Muhammad ibn Musa al-Khwarizmi, who was a legendary Muslim mathematician.

Setting out with the motto, “Pakistan Seeks Al-Khwarizmi,” the 8th National ISMO was held on January 27, 2013 at all the branches of PakTurk schools across the country simultaneously. Approximately 7500 students from classes 5 to 8 representing 500 public and private educational institutions participated in the Olympiad. Students had vied for the coveted top ranks while proving their best potential in numerical skills.

The Chief Guest of the ISMO Prize Distribution Ceremony was Mr. Cemil Çiçek, Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly. Mr. Çiçek was accompanied by a Turkish MNA delegation consisting of Mr. Reha Denemeç (AKP), Ms. Nur Serter (CHP), and Mr. Tuğrul Türkeş (MHP). Mr. Faisal Kareem Kundi, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan was the Guest of Honour of the ceremony.

Among the dignitaries in the audience were Mr. Akhlaq Ahmad Tarar, Federal Secretary for Science and Technology; Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, MNA (PML-N) and Mr. Mustafa Babür Hızlan, Ambassador of Turkey to Pakistan. In addition to Prof. Dr. Manzoor H. Soomro, Chairman, Pakistan Science Foundation, Mr. Kenan Uysal, Country Representative of the TIKA and Mr. Alp Yavuzeser, Country Representative of the Turkish Airlines too were in the audience.

A large audience of students, parents and educationists were present at the prize distribution ceremony which was held at the PakTurk Islamabad Main Campus Auditorium in Chak Shahzad.

Abdul Moeez Ijaz, a Class 8 student of Jinnah Preparatory School Islamabad was declared the Al- Khwarizmi of Pakistan for his outstanding performance in the ISMO 2013. He will retain the title for one year.

In Class 5 category, Zayyan Naveed of the Beaconhouse School System got the 1st position and the cash prizes of Rs. 50,000, while Aleeza Fatima of The Punjab School and Rehmat Munir of The City School got the 2nd and 3rd positions and the cash prizes of Rs. 40,000 and Rs. 30,000 respectively.

In Class 6 category, Ali Nawaz of the Garrison Academy got the 1st position and the cash prize of Rs. 50,000, while Raja Shahmeer Ahmed and Nimrah Latif of the Siddeeq Public School got the 2nd and 3rd positions along with the cash prizes of Rs. 40,000 and Rs. 30,000 respectively.

In Class 7 category, the students of the Siddique Public School got the first three positions as Faiz Muhammad got the 1st position and Rs. 50,000 as the cash prize, while Najeeha Aasim and Abdur Rehman Shamsi got the 2nd and 3rd positions along with their cash prizes of Rs. 40,000 and Rs. 30,000 respectively.

In Class 8 category, Abdul Moeez Ijaz of the Jinnah Preparatory School got the 1st position and the cash prize of Rs. 50,000. Abdul Moeez also received the title of the “Al-Khwarizmi of Pakistan” for the year 2013 and donned the symbolic gown of Al-Khwarizmi at the prize distribution ceremony.

Momin Ahmad Khan of the EMS High School got the 2nd position and the cash prize of Rs. 40,000 while Laibah Ejaz of the Roots School System got the 3rd position and the cash prize of Rs. 30,000 in the Class 8 category of the ISMO 2013.

Speaking at the occasion, Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly Mr. Cemil Çicek said that Turkey will continue to support Pakistan which is a great and trustworthy friend. Adding that Pakistan and Turkey are tied in religious and cultural bonds which should be further strengthened, Mr. Çiçek stated that Turkish government as well as the people of Turkey value multidimensional relations with Pakistan which would by further cemented by the passage of time.

Mr. Çiçek highly commended on the PakTurk educational institutions and the ISMO Prize Distribution ceremony with the words, “I am thankful to the Almighty to be here to witness such an exquisite program where achievement and hard work are rewarded in encouragement of the youth across Pakistan. I congratulate the high-achiever students and their teachers. I also congratulate the PakTurk educationists for organizing such an all-encompassing educational competition which has brought together young talents across the country, providing them a platform of showcasing their success.

Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan, Mr. Faisal Karim Kundi stated that Turkey is promoting education in Pakistan by establishing quality institutes and holding different competitions aimed at enhancing the level of our students. Mr. Kundi added, “Our students are being prepared to compete in the international events while many have won medals of distinction which is a great achievement.

Ambassador of Turkey to Pakistan Mr. Mustafa Babür Hızlan said that Pakistani youth had tremendous potential and amazing talent to progress and advance in all walks of life. “Improving, educating and promoting the brightest Pakistani students is one of the missions of the PakTurk educational institutions” added Mr. Hızlan.

Addressing to the audience with his welcome speech, Mr. Ünal Toşur, Chairman of the PakTurk International Cag Educational Foundation (PakTurk ICEF), gave a brief review about the Foundation’s and the PakTurk educational institutions’ activities thus far and stated that the Foundation is to open the doors of four new school campuses to education in Islamabad, Lahore and Hyderabad by April 2013, adding more schools to the chain of institutions which are already educating more than 6500 students in total 9 cities i.e. Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, Multan, Peshawar, Quetta, Khairpur Mirs, Hyderabad, Jamshoro.

Mr. Toşur commended highly on the contributions of the Pakistani philanthropic businessmen who sponsored the construction of hostel buildings and school campuses so far and also gave the glad tidings of a prospective PakTurk University which is in planning phase in collaboration with the Pakistani and Turkish philanthropists.

MD PakTurk ICEF Mr. Fesih Celik, Director Education Mr. Kamil Türe and others reiterated that PakTurk educational institutions would continue to provide opportunities to Pakistani students to intellectually stimulate them and infuse confidence, ability and decisiveness which were essential ingredient for progress in life.

The prize distribution ceremony concluded with photo sessions and an exclusive hi-tea reception for the participants.
